He props himself up on one elbow and trails the fingertips of his other hand over her naked hip. Her skin is cool beneath his touch and it prickles. He knows she's awake because she's lying almost unnaturally still but neither of them make note of it. After centuries of dancing around moments exactly like this, they're content to revel in it but Tristan isn't good at silences. He never has been. It's part of the reason he fell.

“Listen.”

A long pause before Belle responds. “What am I listening for exactly?”

“Shhhh. Hear that?”

He cracks his elbow then his neck and knuckles. “That is the sound of rich, bored, divorcees' hearts breaking all over the world.”

Belle throws her elbow back into his gut, earning a huff of breath from him. He gets his breath back laughing.

“And you don't even feel bad.”

“They'll find a pool boy,” she dismisses with a smirk then rolls to her back so she can look up at him. “We both waited centuries to find this.”

“Not terribly bright are we?”
